The Fire Teddy Bjørnis

Bjørnis is the main tool for Norwegian fire departments in preventive communication towards children.
This is Bjørnis:

1. The Fire Teddy Bjørnis calms and comforts children involved in fire and other accidents. The teddy is available on most Norwegian fire trucks, and is handed out by fire rescuers to children involved in traumatic situations. Bjørnis builds interpersonal bridges between children and rescuers, proven to be an effective tool to get their attention away from stressful surroundings and prevent traumas.

2. Bjørnis is the main character of the national fire prevention education material for children in kindergarten. The training material is used by 75 % of kindergartens in Norway.

3. Bjørnis is the Norwegian fire departments' mascot. He promotes both national and local fire safety campaigns, and has an important role as a positive representative for the fire departments as the children's great hero. Kids and families meet Bjørnis everywhere: In shows all around Norway, open day at the fire stations, music and music videos, social media, children's books, audio books, children's TV and more.

More than 3 out of 4 fire departments in Norway have adopted the Bjørnis project in their preventive work, and the number keeps growing. The fire teddy project started in Trøndelag Fire and Rescue Service, and the head office is located at the main fire station in Trondheim.  The Fire Teddy Bjørnis Foundation (in Norwegian: Stiftelsen Brannbamsen Bjørnis) is a non-profit organization in which the fire service has a naturally strong ownership, and where the profit goes to further work with the purpose.
